Lacrimas
Profundere
Interview: Jezus C. (Saqrangel)
Answers: Nokolas Oliver (guitar/voice)
I became a faithful follower of this band after listening in 1997 their album 'La naissance d´un reve'... it happened more 10 years from the formation of the band, and them after several albums under Napalm Records they offer us their last and prodigious stuff entitled 'Ave End', musically very different to the first works of the band, but they emotionally still maintain the nostalgia and melancholy that it has always been characteristic of them.... here the interview answered by Oliver Nikolas...:
Greetings... enough time has passed since your album 'La naissance d´un reve', musically now you are very distant of the sound of its first album. How do you remember your first period with Death Metal influences, guttural voices and that whole roll? Yes, you know we like every album we did, but after our "burning: a wish" record it was time to go new ways. It was great to write the first song and it was great to reach so many people with our roots and first records. And so many people loves the first records. This is a big honour for us-but now its 10 years later!
Why in their last disks you did stop to use the flute and the violin? Do you think that the use of those instruments began to saturate the sound of doom/gothic metal bands?
Hahaha, in my opinion in all those years so many bands uses these instruments and structures. It gots boring in the past years and it was always very hard to have a good livesound with so many different instruments. You know, in 1993 we´re one of the first bands that combined doom-deathmetal with this classical instruments like a flute, a harp and a violine and now it´s time for new challenges. Yes the important point was, that we thought its time to change our sound a little bit.!
How do you define your style, Rock´n´sad? Reason?
Yes, this is our definition of what we do. Everybody likes the dirty part of the music and the sad part of gothic, so rock´n´sad fits exactly.
'Ave end' has great reviews, inclusive I have understood that the clip of the song ' Ave End' is shown in TV stations in Germany... Can you say that 'Ave End' is the album that you waited during a lot of time?
"Ave end" is the natural follower of "fall, I will follow" and "fall" is the natural follower of "burning: a wish". Without this or any other record we never could record the "ave end" album. So, I think we don´t waited to release "ave end" we only worked very hard to came to this point!
Mika J. of Finnvox made a good work, the sound of 'Ave End' is very good. Are you happy with the sound result of 'Ave End'?
Yes, Miika did a very good mastering and we´re very happy because of the sound. You can hear every instrument and the sound kicks out of the boxes! The walls of guitars, the deep voice-yes we love the sound. There is so much pressure in the sound - it blows you away! The best sound we´ve ever had.
You played in front of people's thousands in Mexico. Does the same thing happen in Europe? Do you think that the Latin fanatics are hotter?
Do you plan to come to South America? Yes, it would be great to play in south America. This year we´re confirmed for a lot of gigs in Germany, Belgium and Turkey, but we hope next year it would be possible. If we had the right offer-be sure we´ll come. We played in a lot of countries in front of thousand of enthusiastic fans too. And every gig was great-but the latin fans are very hot-this is for sure!!!
Already several disc that you released under Napalm Records, I suppose that Lacrimas Profundere should be profitable. Do you know more or less how many discs you were able to sell of 'Fall, I Will Follow'?
Not yet, but I´m sure its enough, because our label payed our bills till now-hahaha.
How did you contact with Niklas Sundin (Dark Tranquillity) for the cover art? I think that the solitary and pensive man is only waiting wait the fall. Am I in the correct thing?
We searched for a cover that describes the title "ave end" and the music. "ave end" is a concept album, because every song speaks about "the end". The end of a releationship, the end of a long way … For me the title means the longing for death and niclas has a cover in stock that fits exactly to our thoughts so-we sent him a mail and he did the cover for us. The girlfriend of Christopher is artdirector and she did the bookletdesign. Its always hard to find a concept and a cover that fits exactly to the music but we think the whole design fits exactly to the sound.
What liquor do you like? cerveza, wine,
alcohol...
I like wine!!!
For you which are the best releases inside the Doom/Gothic Rock scene this 2004?
Oh- a hard question-I think the best release is not out yet-it's the new album of 69 eyes!
For those that didn't still listen "Ave End", describe us musical and lyrically your stuff.
Its hard to describe music in words. Take a piece of Paradise Lost, 69 eyes, Type o and Anathema and put it in the mixer! Or easier: go to the record dealer next door and check it out.
13. Thank you for time towards me, tell us your future plans and last words...
Thanx for the interview. Next week we shoot our next videoclip, after this we play a lot of Festival gigs. In December we go on tour through Germany with "Subway to Sally". And we write new tracks because we hope to enter the studio again next year to record the next Lacrimas output. Stay dark bye...
