Generally the participation of women in the metal scene has only been
limited singers with clean voices and generally inside bands doom and
Gothic. In contrary position, ASTARTE rises and in its last CD titled "
Sirens " a aggressive and dark Black Metal offers us, with a thematic one
fantastic and mythological, here the interview:
What memorable memories do you keep from the release of their first
demo "Dancing In the Dark Lakes Of Evil"? What ages did you have in that
time?
At that time we had started dynamically the formation of an all female
Black Metal band and we made a 30 minutes demo of full aggression darkness
and Hate. With this demo we sign a contract with Black Lotus records and
for us it was a considerable beginning to enter in the Black Metal scene.
Why did you change their name LLOTH to Astarte? Do you think that the name
of the divinity Astarte locks the feminine principle in all its aspects?
Astarte is a very representative name for us. It is fact that Goddess
Astarte holds a very powerful position to the past and future woman
prototype. She represents the war, fertility, power and beauty. All
aspects that forms a dynamic and undefeated appeal of female existence.
Your new disc "Sirens" is more aggressive than your previous album, to
what was this owed? How do the reactions of the press means go until the
moment?
For the moment we are very satisfied because we made an album, which is
the fastest the most technical and straight of Astarte. Press and audience
have welcomed this album as a new Astarte opening and we have seen a real
good feedback. Very good number of sales and very good reviews. With this
album the band has made a great shift, this is all that counts.
You speak to us of the songs Black Mighty God and Lloth (queen who seduces
gods and humans). What relationship does it exist between the black gods
and Lloth?
In my world of Darkness and my imagination anything can happen. LLOTH is a
spider queen a dark Goddess of underworld who spread death. In my song I
connect two dimensions and I bring together LLOTH goddess with Black gods.
They become one and they spread death. Characters and abilities inspire me
and many times I create my own myth.
 Your
lyrics have a mythological focus, mystic and pagan. Do you consider to
their lyrics merely historical and legends? Or do you think that in some
day of the past everything existed it?
What I believe is that History has many things to teach us and it is a
real source of inspiration. I can not tell if it is 100% real or not, but
for sure it makes it circle and we are also in this circle to create a new
history by borrowing some elements of the past. A way to bring up history
again and to play a role is through Music, lyrics, theatre, painting… and
in our case we have chosen music.
Do
you hug the light and darkness? Which is the conception that you have
about the cosmos, the life, the existence, etc.?
I hug Darkness in my own way and in my own directions. I perceive darkness
not through evil, satanic ect. I see Darkness in the depth of my self
where it leaves my other self, the sad me, the bad me.
Cosmos, life and existence belong in the same track/orbit. It is a
dependent link to produce life.
ASTARTE is a black metal band of women, except the drummer. I believe that
is easier to find a singer woman with soft and melodic voice that a
guitarist or drummer woman. Well, is it very difficult to find women that
play instruments in your country?
It is difficult not only in my country but also generally. It is true that
a female clear vocalist is much easier to be found. But the point here
with Astarte is not to gather all women to play. I do not care about sexes
all I care is to play a good music that will satisfy all of us and all of
our audience.
How would an ideal world be for you?
Just peace. All the rest humanity is allowed to make it. It is the normal
evolution.
Do
you think that the karma is real?
Yes, it is, but I do not know the reason why.
How was the participation of Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir) and Sakis (Rotting
Christ) in some of songs of " Sirens ", do you sympathize well with them?
I had the chance to be in contact with Shagrath because recently they ask
from Astarte to support them in a live. By this chance I came in straight
contact and ask him to participate and he agreed at first place. That was
a real honor for me and we both have a great collaboration. It was a
unique honor for me and Astarte.
With Sakis we know each other a decade and it was time to sing together.
He has made an amazing participation in the song Occeanus Procelarum. It
is a real honor for us.
 I
suppose that your fans writes you a lot and they send you many things; but
would I like to know which the strangest thing or comic that sent you was
or did they say?
The most crazy thing I faced is a letter enclosed in a plastic material
and when I open it was spilled and written with real blood.
The other most amazing thing I faced it was a gift from a fan in my
birthday where he send a five 5 kilo chocolate special order.
For those that didn't still listen Astarte, describe us musical and
lyrically your work.
Musically I would say that we play a crama of Evil Black Metal, Hatred
with a lot of Death and Thrash elements (in the new album there are also
some hardcore parts). Vocals are always female chaotic screams, no clear
vocals allowed for Astarte. There are also melodic moments with keyboards,
which are always melancholic, and this is a characteristic in the music of
Astarte.
Lyrically:
This time in the lyrics you will find the old atmospheric allegoric and
mythical elements. On the other hand I have follow the aggressiveness of
the music and the rawness so you will find lyrics that mirrors my personal
moments of this year. I write and sing for my experiences, for some
mythological elements like Sirens, Persephone. I also inspired from the
movie RING (Japanese version), I write for the Bitterness of Mortality for
the pain that we live during life time and for the unavoidable death that
waits….

I want to thank you too for this Interview.
The future plans for Astarte are to start composing the new album which
will come up in one an d a half year from now. There will be some more
changes in the band which will give to the band many credits. I will not
say more words because it is quite far.
Something I want to add is that I have re-form the LLOTH band and we have
started making lives. We will make some lives abroad and soon we will
record our first official album.
Also I play in another band called INSECTED (raw Death Metal).We have just
finish the recordings of our promo and we will try to find a Label to make
our next step.
