All My Faith Lost
Dark Ambient Sounds...

Interviewer: Jesus C. (Saqrangel)
Answered by: Federico & Viola

Romantic and cold atmosphere, dark and celestial chants, that offers us this talented Italian project, time recently their second album titled "As you're vanishing in silence" was released and they have already received flattering comments around the world to that which we join ourselves... here an interesting interview with them...

Introduce us to the ALL MY FAITH LOST's world ...
We don’t know if AMFL have a own world, we can only say that me (Federico) and Viola are the two people behind this projekt. We try to put our emotions and our feelings in everything we do with the band. It’s a way to express ourselves, a way to create the music that we would like to hear. Probably, if there would be an amfl-world, it would be a melancholic one, an intimate one, someway suspended in a calm and silent place.

When I listened 'As you're vanishing in silence' I really dove in a different world... without daily stress and the disturbing noises of today.. What do you think of your last stuff?
We think that the music of our last cd is really calm and quiet but at the same time is really intense in it’s semplicity, there are a lot of deep feelings coming out from this album. Some songs could be also hypnotic with the continuos repetiton of few notes. We hope anyway that our music, could also make listeners “think” or at least “dream” and not only relax!

Did you use some poems of James Joyce for your lyrics? What aspects do you like of the writings by Joyce?
The early idea behind “as you’re vanishing in silence” was to write some songs using as lyrics Joyce’s writings. The original title of the album was, in fact, “chamber music” like the name of a collection of Joyce’s poems that are perfect for song-setting. They seem written just for becaming delicate lovesongs.

I perceive in your music a quite painful and melancholic atmosphere, songs of love, leaving, silence and vanishing... yeahh... What do you try to say to your listeners? Which is the general concept album?
After knowing that it was impossible to publish “chamber music” because of the problems with the copyright of Joyce’s writings, we decided together with Roger at CMI to re-write other lyrics with our words and to re-record all vocal parts. We tried to mantain the mood of Joyce’s poems and that’s the most important thing. The aim was not to loose the feelings of the original songs. And anyway, you are right, the things we think can come out from this cd are exactly expressed in the title.

I have understood that a beginning, you (Federico) you focused your music toward the medieval folk... Why your current music is more dark romantic...? Is it due to Viola and Francis?
Well, more precisely, me and Francis (amfl founders) started making music with lot of things in our mind. Yes, the early things were more medieval and folk-oriented. The passage to the current mood and sound of our music has been spontaneous with the addition of instruments like piano and sinths. Probably, during the years, we understood that the music we are currently playing is the one that better can express our feelings.

Uhmm why you left the spirit of the water that was present in "In a sea, in a lake, in a r
iver..."? did you Simply want to play another aspect of the life?
We spent some years focusing our attention to faeries, spirits and folktales. During this time we recorded our demo-cd “hollow hills” and our first cd “in a sea, in a lake, in a river ... ... or in a teardrop”. After these works we decided to close this circle devoted to the world of “spirits” and to start pointing our attention to other things, in particular to litterature that is one of our bigger interests.

Cold Meat Industry definitively is the appropriate label for you, are you happy of working with them or do you think that something could have been better?
Cold Meat Industry is probably the best label we could immagine for us! We are very lucky to have the possibility to work with Roger Karmanik. We meet him last year when he came in Italy for a gig with Brighter Death Now. It was a very big pleasure to speak with him, he’s really a nice person! Honestly, when we sent our demo to CMI we did not think that could be of interest for them, even if we know that ours was a good work. We just tried and as the thing are by now, we can only say that we are really gratified!

What music style are you listening lately? Some great band that you would recommend us to listen?
We usually listen to a lot of music, and during these days we heard for the first time Hungry Lucy, we like them very much. Other cds we are listening lately are “Eclipse” by Autumn Tears, “Writ in water” by Sol Invictus, HoWthorn, Sieben. Two great bands that we recommend you are Lily’s Puff and Inner Glory! They played some days ago with us in a beautiful festival we organized in our town.

Describe us musical and lyrically your stuff for all those that didn't still listen to ALL MY FAITH LOST... .
Sweet guitar embroidery accompanied by sinuous and delicate melodies of flute, violin and viola on light sinth sounds.
Folk passages dye of romanticism sometimes sweet and sometimes dark and painful heavenly female vocices create a celestial enterlacement giving words together with the lower male voice, to songs of love silence and vanish ..

Last words, some next plans?
We think for a few months we’ll be very busy with promotion of our cd, if we’ll have the opportunity we’ll play some gigs. Then we have already some things in mind for a new work.
Really thanks for your interest and for this interview. We hope someone of your readers will be curious now to hear our music.
